Why Silk Needs Different Rules Than Regular Laundry

Silk fiber is a natural protein, sensitive to heat and to the harsh chemical agents that don't affect cotton the same way. Washing at high temperature or with a regular detergent containing enzymes can progressively dissolve the thread's structure, making the fabric dull and brittle well before its time.

The Protocol That Actually Preserves the Fabric

Hand washing in cold water (or a machine's delicate/silk cycle at 30°C max) with a detergent free of enzymes, followed by flat drying in the shade, preserves the thread's structure for years. Systematically avoiding the tumble dryer and direct ironing without a protective cloth remains the most important rule.

"Poorly cared-for silk loses its sheen in just a few washes — well-cared-for silk lasts years without losing its original texture. "

Three Minutes of Care for Years of Comfort

This protocol barely takes more time than a regular wash. In exchange, it clearly extends the fabric's lifespan and preserves the sheen that justified the purchase in the first place.
