Momme Is a Weight Unit, Not a Quality Score by Itself

Momme (mm or 'm/m') measures the weight of 100 meters of fabric at a standard width — the higher the number, the denser and heavier the weave. You'll often see 19, 22, or 25 momme on silk pillowcases, and sometimes much higher numbers like 60 or 100 on other types of silk home textiles.

Why 'Higher' Isn't Automatically 'Better' for a Pillowcase

A very high momme (60+) suits duvets or thick linens that need weight. For a pillowcase, the balance between density and softness matters more: too dense a weave becomes stiff and loses fluidity against the skin. A 22 momme grade is recognized in the industry as the sweet spot between durability, softness, and drape for this specific type of bedding.
